What is the Pleinotheek?

The Pleinotheek is a combination of: neighbourhood toy library, kiosk, vending machine, exhibition, book exchange library, information point and meeting place. The blue-green building is located on Berlijnplein and is open to visitors from April to September. Our Pleinotheek manager runs the Pleinotheek together with a team of friendly volunteers. But we can always use extra help. Are you the host we are looking for?

JOB VACANCY

Pleinotheek Host

April-September

Wednesday to Sunday

13:00-17:00

Job description

As a host, you are the face of the Pleinotheek. You make sure everything is ready when the Pleinotheek opens, answer questions from visitors and chat with neighbours who drop by. Children choose what they want to play with; you make sure everything is put back neatly and help where necessary. In the kiosk, you serve coffee and tea to the neighbourhood and sell products from local makers. At the end of your shift, you make sure everything is back inside and leave the Pleinotheek clean and tidy so that it can open again the next day.

What to expect

  • It varies how busy it is. Sometimes it is lively and busy, and sometimes quiet. During quiet moments, you are welcome to bring your own book, laptop, or study materials.

  • The Pleinotheek provides coffee, tea and lemonade for you and the visitors. There is internet, music, heating and a refrigerator.

  • At restaurant Venster, on Berlijnplein, you can order a free lunch before or during your shift.

  • Three times a year, we organise a fun volunteer meeting for all RAUM volunteers.

  • Free access to RAUM's paid programme

  • Do you have a great idea for an activity or programme for the neighbourhood? Then there is room to organise it yourself.

What we expect from you

  • An average of two shifts per month, but more is always welcome.

  • You schedule yourself using our online scheduling programme. If you are unable to do so, we will help you.

  • A high degree of independence, but if you have any questions or problems, there is always someone available.

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG); we will pay the application costs.

  • Even if you are learning Dutch or speak a little, you are welcome.

Does this sound like something for you? Or would you like to know more? Please contact Ghita at pleinotheek@raumutrecht.nl or send a Signal or WhatsApp message to +31 6 23 33 46 60.
