In short
Let's play, color and simplify stories. Together we bring them to life.
We are Cynthia Boom and Kevin Kars. Kars + Boom a design studio in creation of illustrated stories: playful products, objects, installations and prints. Kars + Boom is founded in 2010.
We escape from reality in our work. We create new worlds in which we wish to wake up, in our graphic & illustrative prints, installations and products. We search for the geometry of landscapes, the shapes and patterns of cities thus creating a new interplay of lines.
By investing in public space, we can create inclusive, vibrant, and thriving communities for everyone's benefit and promote a sense of connectedness. We believe that art and culture are for everyone. That's why, as a studio, we want to contribute to this, as unfortunately, it is not yet a reality. We do this in various ways. For instance, we observe that through our participation projects in neighborhoods, ownership and connection are fostered within the community. Play is an important factor in designing and working with communities, they will share more about their play designs for ALL children and the processes behind it.
Mijali Posada Polydorides (b. 1997) is a Mexican-Cypriot designer-maker-performer. His practice uses an auto-ethnographic approach to explore a contextual understanding of lived experiences, navigating the intersection of designer, maker, and performer to construct a poetic and emotionally resonant design language. Through deeply personal narratives and contextual storytelling, Mijali investigates how design can serve as a medium for emotional and cultural expression across diverse formats and materials.
Currently he dives into the world and history of pinata making, aiming to use and recontextualize this tradition as a way of integrating play, community building and design. He will share his research and beautiful designs during the Makers Meet & Eat.
His work has been exhibited in international forums such as Milan Design Week, Dutch Design Week, Vienna Design Week, Design Week Mexico, and ZsONAMACO Diseño, among others. Mijali’s practice has been recognized as one of the 29 Talents Under 30 by coolhuntermx and named a design and architecture promise by Glocal Design Magazine.
